AAU Southern Power

Rock Hill, SC

January 8th-9th

Our team (CJV 16 Zoe) competed in 16 open at AAU Southern Power in Rock Hill. This was our first tournament as a team and there was a great turnout for competition, and skill!

Our team was seeded in a power pool which are pools that are grouped with the highest seeds. Whew, this made for some good competition right from the first match of the morning. We had a total of 25 teams in our age group.

On Saturday, we played 3 matches and won 6 sets, putting us in a great position for the bracket play which would start Sunday morning at 9:00. Fortunately, for us we reffed at 8:00 so that allowed us to wake up a bit before our game.

Sunday's match started right where we left off... we won the first match in two sets, which put us in the semi-finals against CUVC 16 Premier. This proved to be the toughest match of the weekend. We won the first set with a score of 25-20. Unfortunately, we struggled a little bit in the second set and lost 23-25 and then came back in the third set winning 16-14 to advance us to the championship game.

We played Upward Stars who proved to be strong. They were consistent in serving and blocking and unfortunately, they beat us in two sets. We ran a quick offense, and didn’t let anything hit the floor on defense.

I was very happy going 6-1 for the weekend at our first tournament! I feel that we proved to ourselves and our competition that we will be playing as a strong team this season and also for wins.
