Hello...
I'm Sydney!

I have been a student at Davidson Day School in Davidson, NC since I was 3. I will be graduating in the spring of 2024. I have a great love for the game of volleyball and hope to continue combining my academics and athletics in college.

A Few
Things
About
Me

Sydney Tate

Name: Sydney Tate

Position: Setter

Height: 5' 10"

DOB: 2/13/2006

Birthplace: Edina, MN

Hometown: Davidson, NC

High School: Davidson Day School

Experience: I started volleyball when I was in 4th grade. I played all four years of middle school and when I was in 7th and 8th grade, I joined Junior Varsity (JV) as an all around setter. In 9th grade I was dual rostered between Varsity and JV.

In my Sophomore school season, I played as a six-rotation setter and helped lead my team to the 2A state championship. I was voted all conference and 2021 all tournament team.

I began playing club at Lake Norman Volleyball Club when I was 12. I played there until the end of my 14s season. After my 14s season, I moved clubs to Carolina Juniors Volleyball (CJV). I played on 15 National 1 my first season, then moved to 16 Zoe, the Elite Team of CJV 16s.

For 2022-23, I have moved to Carolina Union Volleyball Club (CUVC) on the 17 Open, coached by Bill Ferguson.

Something that I have always loved about the game is how it challenges you mentally and how you have to adapt. During the game if you are in a rut, you have to be the one to pull yourself out of the rut and focus on the next point. I also like how you have to adapt during the game by changing who you serve to, which plays to run depending on blockers and finding the seams and holes in the block on offense.

I will continue to improve my skills and leadership and with the intent to play in college. I feel that volleyball creates opportunities to become a leader by being a good teammate. In my opinion, It creates situations to be an all around, better person. Playing in college will help me continue improving these traits.

What People are Saying...

Adjectives I would describe Sydney as a person and athlete:

  1. Self-Motivated
  2. Intentional
  3. Competitor
  4. Caring
  5. Team-oriented - but strives to improve individually for herself and to make the team better
  6. Hardworking
  7. Sees the glass half full not half empty
  8. Discipline/ Leader

As I watch her compete I see the drive to excel, unselfishness on her behalf of the team, and the preparation to win. I know she will excel at whatever endeavor she undertakes. She has improved since club season has started, she utilizes all tempo sets. We are a team that must run a fast-tempo offense. She is constantly in the gym trying to get better, not only as a setter but defensively too.
